You Voted For Who?
I don’t recall ever being a fan of the United States’ Congress.* And, more to the point, I am definitely not a fan of the now-sitting contentious, grandstanding Congress (who according to a recent Gallup survey enjoy the lowest rating in American history!), nor any part of the political circus that currently passes for the American government for that matter. In my opinion, we need less made-for-the-evening-news posturing and more made-for-the-good-of-the-people thinking from our elected officials.
So, in light of the sound-bite focused “up all night” stunt pulled by the Sentate, the following tidbit from the May/June 2007 issue of Psychology Today 1) does not surprise me, and 2) scares me:
“A new study shows that political conservatives have less fantastical dreams, sleep more soundly, and experience fewer nightmares than liberals, perhaps because conservatives are more strongly anchored in the here and now.”
Yes, now you can track your politicians via their sleep patterns!
I have an odd idea: how about we all get a good night’s sleep and rethink our voting patterns instead?
*It should be noted that I am a fan of the United States’ system of government, and find our Representative-based, three branch system to be the best in the world, maybe in all of history. What I am not a fan of is the vast number of elected officials who think their job is to get re-elected by funneling the earned income of working Americans into pet projects designed to raise their popularity solely among the people who vote them into office.
